About
I am an artist based in West Cork working predominantly with video installation. I completed my BA in Visual Art at TU Dublin/BAVA Sherkin Island in 2024. The period I spent studying was very informed by 'island thinking' and this foregrounded my interest in digital systems as both the infrastructural 'god-send' to connectivity, whilst also, contradictorily contributing to an increased sense of isolation. What I am most interested in is the affect of this isolation, the material realities of digital infrastructures, and the residues of devotion supplanted onto technological innovation, which I see as being rooted in myth and transcendent ideologies.
My recent video installation Eden. was grounded within the traditions of figurative painting and I built up the compositions with this logic in mind. Using green-screen compositing techniques, I develop work by filming individual performances and layering them onto the 'video canvas'. Eden. was shown at the RHA (2024/25), and I was awarded the RDS Taylor Award (2024), GSD Emerging Visiting Artist Award (2024), OpenEar Graduate Award (2024), and the NSF/BAVA Graduate Residency Award (2024) through the display of this work.
