To be Visible, Augmented (2023)

“An image is not only a pseudo-event, it is a kind of pseudo-ideal. It is synthetic, believable, passive, vivid, simplified, and ambiguous” (Boorstin, 1992).

This work explores some of the downfalls of our reliance on visuality - and pulls forward contradictions associated with the attempt to make visible, reality or “abstract totality”. Whilst my work more generally attempts to make “the invisible visible, or a hidden truth tangible”, it’s within this contradiction of image creation that my work exists. Drawing on the humorous, attempts for clarity and resolution persist - but what does it really mean to be within and contribute to a deceptively manipulable image-based world?
